This event actually hurt business downtown, as regular customers in the Broadway/nearby restaurants stayed away in droves to avoid the crowds, and the visitors from NJ and out of town places tended to come in, see the parade, then head right home on the PATH.<BR/><BR/>Yes, the local hot dog guys and pizzerias sold a bit more, but it was absolutely a net loss to business, and a very substantial cost to the city in terms of overtime.<BR/><BR/>Besides, even it we made money--which we did not--why reward a sports franchise which left New York City and which never intends to return?<BR/><BR/>Sports parades are bread and circuses for the yahoos.
