Election – what lessons have been learned?

I didn’t expect this result, and I don’t think that most of us did either. I think that the Democrats expected to win a close election; while a lot of Trump supporters were more confident, but still nervous.

Trump didn’t sneak in the electoral college way the way he did in 2016, this was an impressive majority vote in the majority of states.

Even in deep blue New York City, Trump got significantly more votes than he did eight years ago. Trump had a double digit gain in votes in Brooklyn. He won an overwhelming majority of the orthodox Jewish vote.

I don’t think that this was so much an endorsement of Donald Trump as it is a  rejection of Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party.

I’ve spoken to a number of Trump supporters who agree that he is personally dishonest, generally a man of low character. But they voted for him because he was strong on the issue of border security, and because he was perceived, as being stronger on the economy.

Some will call Trump a racist, But it’s hard to Square that opinion, with the fact that Trump sharply increased Republican, share of the Latino vote, while increasing the small Republican share of the black vote.

Bill Maher, the comedian is as committed a Democrat as there is, But he has for some time Been disturbed by the thin, lipped intolerance of many Democrats, and their embrace of lunatic cultural positions. Months ago, on his HBO program, he wondered why The left wanted to die on the hill of minors ( supposedly) changing their sex, without the consent or knowledge of  their parents. ( see the bill that Gavin Newsom signed in California )

Some have said that Latinos wouldn’t vote for Kamala Harris, because she was a woman. That’s hard to believe, when they voted for Hillary Clinton, and at a time when Mexico now has a woman Prime Minister. Latinos And other Americans aren’t anti-woman, they just aren’t insane. They don’t want boys in the changing room, and they don’t want an  uncontrolled border.

The backdrop to all of this is that Joe Biden was seriously impaired for years, and the Democratic Party power structure and all of the Democrat friendly media, covered it up, and lied about it. How can you trust a party that does a thing like this?

We have a mentally impaired president right now for the next two months. Whose fault is that?

But also, you can’t avoid the fact that Kamala Harris was just a god awful candidate. In my opinion, she is a  vacuous, unserious person.

Some said that she Moved to the center, but she did no  such thing. A couple of weeks ago, she said that the concept of rate operations for slavery “ should be studied” . That means that she’s for it, I don’t see too many former slaves when I go about my day, and I don’t think that any of the slaves that did exist 160 years ago were held in captivity by the US government.

So we are now about to be ruled by an evil, probably  the lesser of two evils, but evil still, supported by a meek, subservient , Republican house and Senate.

Heaven help us all.

Very interesting analysis, a blunt honest view of your perspective even if I find it a bit contradictive at the end.
A couple of points that I have have a differing perspective than you. Number one being the outcome of the race. Phantom the majority of America from where I sit viewed Trump's win as an inevitability
Yes there was a definite nervousness about another cheat being pulled, but other than the slim odds of that the majority new he'd win and rightfully so.
Not even getting into the political issues the economic issues guaranteed a change of the administrations economic policy. It's green economic policy.
Core inflation hit over 22% Fuel, Food, and Housing become unmanageable for the majority of American working families that earn a median income $80,610 for a family of 4. The Biden economy has cost the median income family $11,000 spending power. Credit card debt has gone through the roof, and no one can get a mortgage.
Harris said flat-out she wasn't going to change a thing economically. Blaming price gouging went over like a led balloon. The democrats and her desire to transfer the U.S. to a green economy that isn't green and destroys the chance for people to make any green is the true reason of their defeat.
Now for the politics. You say Trump is a dishonest man, always has been and always will be. The fact that until he held office he was never arrested, finned or accused of anything illegal doesn't seem to count for anything with you, but it must for the people. He did after all win the popular vote as well as the electoral college.
The 9 years of Russian Collusion and the million and one felony charges brought against him and anyone associated with him didn't convince the public he was crooked. If anything it had the opposite effect.
When you add on top of that the systematic oppression of free speech that the Democrats used against not just their political opponents but the speech of the average Joe it turned Americans stomachs. It also turned their ire against the Federal government making Trump more palpable with his vows to clear everything out.
The idea of firing half the Federal Government appeals to more people than anyone wanted to admit.
The Democrats no longer represent the working class American. They've embraced the fringe, and the fringe took the party completely over. The extreme icing being convincing your son Johnny that he was really Jane and using that position to truly take away women's rights by destroying Title 9 federally authorizing Males to compete against females.
The loss of the Unions however is their long-term downfall. We have yet to see the full effect of that, because it hasn't fully hit yet.
The largest Union in the country is the government unions. Unions that produce nothing. Every other Union is reliant upon fossil fuel, from car manufacturers, construction workers, every labor union is directly or indirectly controlled by fossil fuel use and consumption. The lefts war on fuel is a war on all of them, and the root of all the nations economical problems. Everything everyone owns was carried on a truck. Trucks run on gas. They can't be replaced by electric trucks because to meet the specs to handle their weight with the electric battery every bridge in the nation must be rebuilt. Including the ones going in and out of NY. How much for a new Verrazano ?
The Latin vote is another long-term problem. Despite the Machismo reputation they are 2 things Matriarchal and primarily Catholic. They also want to open small businesses not be on the dole.
As for this line.... the concept of rate operations for slavery “ should be studied”..... I take it she meant reparation's.... lmao. The First slaves in North America were Irish, and if anyone should get reparation's it should be the Families of the Union Soldiers who died to end slavery.

The next 4 years are going to be very interesting. Trump has laid an ambitious plan on multiple fronts. It's going to be a fun show to watch, and discuss.

What are your views on the cabinet choices?

Marco Rubio is a good choice . I think Matt Gaetz AG choice and the Fox News guy as defense secretary demonstrate a complete lack of seriousness on the part of Trump. These are really important choices, and he is completely throwing them away. They are being chosen for their loyalty to Trump, not their loyalty to country, or for their competence

One aspect that I think you both have missed is how Trump is liked and loved by over half of the American people. On the right he is considered the ultimate patriot for taking a bullet for his country and instead of quitting he doubled his effort to become president. Many on the right would take a bullet for him. The R;s now have all three branches of government, and I expect Trump to do exactly what he said he was going to do.

I agree on Rubio, Gaetz on the other hand is qualified but I don't believe has the temperment for the job. I think Whittaker would have been a better choice. As for Hegseth I totally support the choice. A former Airborne soldier with two Bronze Stars who has written an excellent book on exactly what is wrong with the DOD. He is also a graduate of both Princeton and Harvard. I believe the criticism of him is from those who don't know his bio nor read his book. The opposition is from those who just see a Fox Newscaster and not what or who he is.

Good to hear your voice Charles

Thanks Patrick! I've been scarce lately as I have been dealing with some serious health issues. Next week I'll get the results of some tests.

I agree with you on Gaetz and Hegseth. Pete is a wonderful choice for SecDef, as he will be the soldier's voice writ large. I don't think Gaetz will make it through the Senate however.

I am in Wilmington, North Carolina, On the Atlantic coast. I am spending the night here, And will drive down to Charleston South Carolina tomorrow in order to attend a wedding this coming Saturday.

Wilmington is known as the birthplace of Michael Jordan, and also the hometown of Lara Trump.

This is a nice southern town. It was a rainy day today here, but tomorrow we see good driving weather to SC. Wish we could’ve sent that rain up to the north east which could really use it.

People don't realize because we rarely have wildfires how dry it is up here. In Pa when humidity gets below 40% it goes into fire warnings, add to that almost 2 months with no rain.... enjoy the wedding, and drive safe.
