Bay Ridge Avenue Shooting? Photo One of Five

July 18, 2007 at 10pm or so. Below Third Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue (known by all locals as 69th Street) There is a massive NYPD and FDNY presence. 69th Street is blocked off at both Third Avenue (here) and Fourth Avenue intersections.

Whoa, I saw this coming home from work tonight, but didn't go look. There were two helicopters hovering overhead, too. I can't find anything about it on the news.

Me neither. And its time for bed. It was like a goddamned war zone out there for a while, there has to be something on TV or in the papers later.

Yeah, a goodamned war zone, I saw mortar fire, rockets, such mayhem!

I'm an 'green-card challenged' dude living in a closet with a false door in the apartment in question. Man, all I could do is keep quiet and hope they didn't find me. It was so noisy.

Here's what I've heard...a 20 yr old kid was supposedly on drugs and was holding his family hostage. He had a gun and was shooting up the apt and eventually committed suicide. He didn't shoot anyone else.

Can anyone corroborate this?

I also heard there was a stabbing the very next morning near 100th St around 4th ave. Anyone know anything about that?

grandpa

I just spoke to two storeowners on the block. They heard the same thing that you heard.

Hey I live right up the block and I saw all the heicopters and police zipping around for almost an hour. the thing is, NO POLICE from the 68th precent will admit it happened atr all. there is nothign of it on the tv or even int he local news. someone needs to start asking questions. It had to do with drugs and i think something fishy with the NYPD in bay ridge

I actually tried calling the pct. and the women was very rude and told me that nothing at all happened. when i told her i saw it all out of my window she told me i didn't. Who can we report this to?

The stabbing at 100st in bay ridge was of a realtor, who owns the one on 68st and 3rd Ave. He was duct-taped to a chair in the hallway of an apt. and they stabbed him numerous times. They knew he was rich so I guess that's the motive. People were saying that he carries around thousands of dollars in his pockets. I really wanna know what happened with the shooting!

Hound the media. Call each of them. Look for email addresses on the website. Harrass your local politician. Then harass the so called community rep at the precinct. Tax payers not privy to minimum information about a large police event? Maybe they are just slow with a cover story, perhaps not foul play but maybe the victim(s) were involved in something the law agencies don't want you to knoe 'the facts.'

Lads

I, too am amazed that there has been zero news media coverage of this major incident. A call to our local representatives may be in order.

And yeah, abusive comments will be deleted, so cut it our.

Hey, Phantom, how about doing a little roundup and putting together a new post with what we know so far. Maybe include some email addresses at the Post, News, etc... that we can forward it to. I saw it myself, two helicopters swirling overhead for an hour. I'd like to know what happened.

just found out my landlord was the one stabbed to death, does anyone have any news on this? I saw the post story, but it didn't reveal much. Phantom, any postings on this?

Sorry I have no information on this story other than what I see in the paper.

I only now see that this was the man who owned O'Kelly Realty. I'm sorry.

I will try to do that tomorrow.

If this incident was confined solely to one apartment, why did they have TWO police copters circling the neighborhood? These copters had even their searchlights on scanning the area. Definitely a massive police presence! Is this customary or an overreaction?

Does this shooting have anything to do with the stabbing at 100th st? Supposedly up to 5 young men with baseball bats were seen fleeing the area. That kid on 69th hung out with a group that was always looking for trouble: drugs, fireworks, fistfights, etc.

My dad tried looking into it with the local precinct officers, and they wouldn't give him a straight answer either. He said it was probably a raid, and not a shoot-out, since it wasn't covered by local news (apparently raids are not supposed to be reported). Still, it's very sad and odd that there's almost NOTHING for us to go on other than hearsay.

Raids are not supposed to be reported? That doesn't make any sense. You hear about raids (drugs, guns, etc.) in the news all the time.

What makes this "raid" so different?

a boy killed himself on the 18th.on 69 st very sad ..thats what it was all about ..

I wrote to fox 5 so they can investigate this fishy story. we all need to write the our local news channels (except ch 2) so they can get on top of this and find out why CH 2 did not cover the story. What is happening to our neighborhood?

The story as I got it from a friend of the kid and who was playing basketball with him in Owls Head Park only a couple of hours earlier was that the kid went home where there may or may not have been a family argument. For whatever reason, the kid fired a round through the apartment door. A neighbor called NYPD. NYPD showed up and treated it as a "barricaded armed individual". The kid refused to surrender. NYPD waited. The kid must have made a phone call to someone because I was told that he had told someone that he didn't want to go to prison. So he shot himself.
