Trump - The Art of the Sellout

In his first term in office, President Trump, via the  Doha agreement, agreed to surrender Afghanistan to the Taliban. The agreement was between the US and the Taliban – the ( US ally  ) Afghan government was never permitted to take part in the negotiations.

This week, President Trump commenced negotiations with Russia to end the Ukraine war. The Ukraine government was not permitted to take part in these  negotiations.

The Ukraine negotiation is a surrender agreement on the part of the US  every  bit as much the Afghan negotiation was. Trump has already conceded everything that was important before the negotiations even began- that Russia would not have to give back Ukrainian territory, that Ukraine would not be allowed to enter NATO.

The NATO nations have given significant support to Ukraine, But, like Ukraine, they’re not part of the negotiations, either. The NATO allies weren’t even notified beforehand about  the talks.

Trump has been exceptionally disrespectful towards the Ukrainian leadership, and is proposing that Ukraine repay the US on onerous terms, terms even more severe than were imposed on Germany after the first World War. This, while he has  been exceptionally deferential towards Putin and Russia. The Russians can’t believe their good fortune.

It’s pretty easy to reach a deal when you give the adversary  everything that he wants. Trump did just that in Afghanistan, and he’s doing it now in Ukraine.

Our  alliances, and our power are being dismantled before our very eyes.

Trump is not just flat out wrong regarding Ukraine. He's so wrong that it must be deliberate, which begs the question - what is he up to? I'll take his domestic policies all day long but the last few days call for the men in white coats to take a look at him.

In the end generations of European leaders have allowed this. Despite a population and an economy which dwarves those of Russia, despite being easily capable of defending themselves militarily - if they chose to do so - they decided instead that Euro-socialism, degenerate welfare, suicidal immigration and cowering under a military umbrella provided by American taxpayers were preferable.

That provided the opportunity for a Trump to appear and pull their pants down and no amount of shrieking will hide that fact. Special mention must also be made of Jake Sullivan, a coward who so slow-walked aid to Ukraine that a perilously weak Russia was effectively rescued from military defeat in late 2022.

Unless Trump is on a massive bluff (which he might be) he will soon learn that being friendless is no fun internationally. If he will drop friends and allies on a whim then why be a friend or ally? Hopefully someone will talk sense into him and he sees that crashing the Russian economy is the way to go but he's on a charge and in no mood to listen.

It's been clear for a long time that Ukraine will be carved up in some way in the end. The lesson remains the same for the UK and EU nations: grow up and start taking care of yourselves and your own neighbourhood. China's rise will inexorably take more of US attention and cash. Speaking honestly with friends while shouldering your fair share of the burden of defence will make for better US/UK/EU relations anyway.

Oh bullsh**, Ukraine was a vassal state of Russia before Obama, Nuland, and the scumbag McCain arraigned a coup to take it away from them. NATO was never supposed to expand beyond it's original members, that was part of the deal when the Soviets fell.

The actions of both the US and NATO caused this situation. If NATO continues on it's path it will cause a Nuclear War, these negotiations put a stop to that. The only thing we need to hear from Ukraine is an accounting of our money, and an accounting of the money that was being exchanged in Ukraine during the Obama and Biden Presidencies.

Remember the one "Impeachment" of Trumps first Presidency was initiated because of a phonecall where Trump asked for an accounting of that money.

Ukraine became the pawn of the Left in both the US and Europe and this is what it cost them.

Pete none of the Governments of Europe are our friends, but they will learn what FAIR trade means and the only reason NATO exists is for the US to maintain a military presence in Europe because two world wars have proven they can't prevent themselves from being rolled over.

Ukraine proves what happens when the eastern powers of Europe don't fear U.S. intervention.

In 1991, the people of Ukraine voted to be an independent nation, with 92% of the vote. .Russia formally agreed to respect the borders of Ukraine, I believe twice.

Very many of the countries and peoples of Europe are our friends, But the condo salesman seems determined to change that. He shows contempt and disrespect for our friends, while he bends the knee towards America’s enemies. Why is that?

Let’s stick to only the government of the UK.

The British supported the US invasions of both Iraq and Afghanistan. 179 British troops were killed in Iraq; 456 were killed in Afghanistan.

Under both Labour and Conservative Governments, the British have Strongly pro US and pro NATO.

How could they be more friendly than that?

On the contrary, both world wars demonstrate that European nations are rather difficult to roll over. European peoples are tough. They have endured incredible suffering over the centuries and endured.

Point of order: NATO didn't "expand" one inch eastward. It can only take in countries which apply to join. That Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria all joined asap when the Soviet Union collapsed is testament to life under Russian domination. They all know what that entails and have no wish for a replay.

Regardless of the history, Putin alone is the aggressor and bears responsibility for a sovereign, independent Ukraine being invaded. Whatever Trump intends to achieve he simply cannot begin by inverting history.

Look, you know I supported him. I maintain that his domestic policies are urgent and essential and I wish him every success in them, but Trump's language around Ukraine and Zelensky is beneath his office and it demeans the US.
