Years ago, the corner of Fourth Avenue and Senator Street was the site of an A&P supermarket, later a Waldbaum's, which provided a valuable service for the entire neighborhood.
In more recent years, a Duane Reade drugstore was on the site. It did not do so well, as it was in competition with the more centrally located Rite Aid supermarket on 69th St.
Now it's the site of "American Place", a clothing store.
I went inside once, I ran outside after a quick glance, will never come back.
looked like shit from the outside. wouldn't dare go inside.
I found great deals at the store. I wish them the best of luck. I will recommend it to all my friends.
I bought nine west leather boots in mint condition for only $25. Its better that the snobs... supposed elites somehow living in bay ridge go to Barneys or saks and shop.
i like the store, i hope they never leave, i will support them til the end
i wanna give a shout out to natalie paul, shes so sexy and she fro bay ridge. hey natalie!!!
For those of you who are afraid to walk in, that's just gravy. That just means more for us. I am so happy they opened a location on 86th street.
I left a really good review about American Place but you guys don't want the truth to be told so you didn't post it. American Place is terrific but it's not pretty department store shopping at all. I was in Vegas diner and the people in another both were talking loudly about how great American Place is. We're in a recession if you haven't noticed.
I miss my old store. I'm a former employee of the Waldbaum's; some great times in that place.
American Place is agreat bargin store and it has cheap prices for the brands they sell. Sure the store dosen't look nice but it is a great store to find great store deals!
True, the place is a mess and you have to go through a lot of "junk" but if you do find something it's definietly gonna be a bargain. I got a gown (Calvin Klein) to wear to my sisters wedding (brand new with Macy's tags) for $30! and that's just one of the great deals I've found there.
For all the snobs and bitches who got $ to burn, God bless you! I am a fashion consultant and I LOVE American Place. I have gotten gowns and clothing from Guess to Marc Brawer Glammit gowns for $10 or less. Free people, BCBG, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Roberto Cavalli , Jessica Mc Clintock, Laundry and Tahari for practically NOTHING! For those who frown their noses, I hold my head high because if we are both at a function, no one can tell who has on the Saks gown or the AP one. Stay away from AP! They'll just be more for me :)
If your THAT snobby, move to park slope and complain about the eyesore (and by that, i mean the inherent classism that arises when people see the patrons of this business), and they'll do something about it. One good thing about bay ridge is that its not so gentrified that only rich bitchy white people can live here and complain about stores with cool stuff at low prices.
